The students learning paces in Ms. Daniels 7th grade writing class vary greatly due to the range of learning abilities in the group. Of the 30 students in the class, those that stand out at are the highest and lowest abilities, because they are typically complete their task(s) well before the other students or much later than the other students in the class. The other thing that stands out is the number of raised hands and questions by the lower students, most of which occur seconds after given explicit instructions. Whether in whole group or individually, the ability for them to think on their own is a challenge.

It is clear that the majority of students in this class want to succeed; however, it is also apparent that many of them are very frustrated and oftentimes shut down because of their struggles. Although they have questions and are enthusiastic about the work, several of them tend to give up based on their disabilities. For example, one student in class has not been officially identified as have ADD/ADHD, but his inability to complete a task, as well as many other indicators, suggest that he has the disorder. He struggles greatly when it comes to sitting silently in class, following along with instruction, completing an assignment, staying at a Level 0, and facing forward/walking silently when transitioning between classes.
