UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICO AT HUMACAO ENGLISH DEPARTMENT EDPE 4006 Practice Teaching Eliezer Morales Ruiz.

. Reflection: April 29, 2013 to May 3, 2013. The month that every candidate for graduation was waiting for was finally here, May. For some of my peers, realizing that we were so close to our graduation of the UPRH and the end of our practice teaching journey was a mix of feelings and emotions. Also some of us had graduation groups in our schools and our students shared in some kind of way the same feelings. This week we began our last topic, we were going to read folk tales. I introduced the topic with the folk tale Aunty Misery. This folk tale is from the Puerto Rican writer Judith Ortiz Cofer. The students learned about cause and effect and they also did a comic strip about the tale. It was great to offer a selection from a Puerto Rican writer and that was included in a book from the D.E. curriculum materials. I was glad to see that almost all of my students were going to finish the semester with good grades. Also on Friday, May 3, 2013, we had an activity called the Circle of Hope. This activity was to raise awareness about the Cancer disease and also a fundraising activity for a foundation that serves kids with Cancer. This is a condition that is ascending in our population every day and has reached and affected our families in a direct or indirect kind of way. The school community this year was affected by the lost of one student that was fighting against Cancer. Also the school principal lost her husband years ago due the same condition. The activity was a complete success and I had the opportunity to spend time with my students outside of the classroom. This is an activity that the school community will continue to coordinate every year for the support of the cause and the people fighting against it.
