Grade 5/6 mathematics Rubric: Constructing a map and following directions

Criteria for Evaluation Scale

4 Points Map was drawn to scale with proportionally accurate representations of school buildings demonstrating solid understanding. Each member of the group shared and contributed ideas and thoughts and worked well as a group. Student showed exceptional understanding of directions, and able to transfer 10+ steps into directional language.

3 Points Most buildings were drawn to scale demonstrates good understanding of proportion.

2 Points Few buildings were drawn to scale demonstrating some understanding of proportion.

1 Point Scale was inaccurate and little spatial understanding of proportion.

Communication

Most members of the group shared their ideas and thoughts to construct the map.

A couple of members of the group shared their ideas and thoughts to construct the map. Students showed some understanding of directions and were able to transfer 1-3 steps into directional language

Little constructive communication took place to construct the map.

Measuring and recording directions

Students showed good understanding of directions and were able to transfer most 7-9 steps into directional language

Students showed little understanding of how to transfer their experiences into directional language.
