4 PURPOSE OF RESEARCH The purpose of this research was to determine the effects on the students background,and reading resources towards the reading habit of the tertiary level students. The objectives of this research were: 1.4.1 RESEARCH OBJECTIVES This research was carried out with the following objective: a)factor that contributes more to the lackness of reading habit among tertiary level students? 1.4.2 RESEARCH QUESTIONS This research was carried out to answer the following research questions: (a) How many books have a student prefer for reading in the past 3 months? (b) Which types of books a student prefer for reading? (c) What are the lectures roles in cultivating reading habits among tertiary level students? (d) What is the factor that contributes to lack of interest in reading among tertiary level students? (e) How often a student go to library per week for reading purpose? 1.5 IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH The study is important to be carried out to understand the factors that influence the reading habits among tertiary level of students. Therefore through the studies lectures also would be aware of their roles in cultivating the habit in these tertiary level of students. Furthermore, they would make an effort to create a friendly environment that nurtures reading by providing space, materials and encouragement. In a bigger picture, the tertiary level administration would realize that they should improve their facilities and resources to accommodate the students reading habits. On the other hand, the research also gives a chance to students to identify the barriers to reading that they have been facing and try to overcome it.

3.1 RESEARCH INSTRUMENT The instrument that we propose to use as mentioned earlier is a questionnaire form survey. The survey consists of 9 close-ended questions. On the other hand, a formal letter is prepared to submit to the university administration to get permission to carry out the research in the respective university.
