Oswayo Valley Students Earn Awards at State PJAS Competition


Three students from Oswayo Valley Middle/High School recently presented science projects in a state competition of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) after having earned First Awards in the regional competition in Erie. At the state event held May 13, at Penn State University in State College, PA, Barrett Kemp and Brian Gilroy each earned a First Award for their efforts, while Sarah Malogrino earned a Second Award. Eighth-grade student Sarah Malogrino investigated whether or not ink from permanent markers could be th removed from cloth. Brian Gilroy, a 10 -grade student, presented a project comparing the speed and ease of use of three Microsoft Windows operating systems, including the newest Windows 8 system. Senior Barrett Kemp completed a project comparing the efficiencies of incandescent, fluorescent, and LED light bulbs.
