Outstanding YPS Educators Honored for Excellence in Education (Yonkers, NY) Three outstanding Yonkers Public Schools educators

have been recognized for excellence in their fields: Cross Hill Academy teacher Edwin Sndez and Lincoln High School teacher Dr. Angela Arias have been named the Teachers of the Year and will be inducted into the Teacher Hall of Fame, and PEARLS Hawthorne principal Dr. Marjorie Brown-Anfelouss has been named Administrator of the Year, earning the Leadership in Education award. On behalf of Trustees of the Board, we congratulate these outstanding educators for their commitment to the District; most importantly, the students and families for whom they serve, said Board President Dr. Nader J. Sayegh. They are a testament to the talented faculty within our schools. These individuals are the epitome the apex of educators in our District, said Superintendent of Schools Bernard P. Pierorazio. We thank them for being the role models that they are and extend our heartfelt gratitude for instilling within their students the confidence and knowledge to achieve. The teacher recognition program has been an ongoing collaboration between the Board and the Kiwanis Club of Yonkers since 1955, and the Board formally established the Teacher Hall of Fame on July 13, 1978. Subsequently, the Administrator of the Year, or Leadership in Education award, was inaugurated in 1986 as a project of the Rotary Club of East Yonkers in association with the Yonkers Board of Education. A celebratory dinner held in honor of the Teachers of the Year is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28 at the Riverview, located at 1 Warburton Avenue in Hastings-on-the-Hudson, New York. Guests are asked to arrive at 6:00 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $55.00, and checks payable to Yonkers Kiwanis Club may be returned to Yonkers Public Schools Personnel/Human Resources Department, One Larkin Center, Yonkers, NY 10701. The Administrator of the Year dinner takes place Wednesday, May 29 at the Riverview. Cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $60.00, and checks payable to Yonkers Kiwanis Club may be returned to Sheila Mueller, Yonkers Public Schools, Personnel/Human Resources Department, One Larkin Center, Yonkers, NY 10701.
