Organised farming is in the hands of Indians in Fiji. The native Fijians practice subsistence farming which has not changed in centuries. Their staple food being the root crop "taro". On this farm, the widowed Indian woman (Mrs Geeta Veeraswamy), the twin sister of my spinster aunt Devika, cultivates tomatoes throughout the year. Her late husband Balakrishna Veeraswamy worked as an accountant with Duly Motors in Ndola in Zambia. In Zambia, they also grew tomatoes in the Kafubu Block farming area. It was there that uncle Balakrishna caught cerebral malaria and died. Earnings from agriculture is educating her daughter Gomati at MIT in the USA. This is testimony of the Indian entrepreneurship in Fiji.
