    Requiescat in pace [Rest in Peace] is no empty phrase or rhetorical flourish; this oath is fraught with meaning. It is in fact a conjuration proving that the thread holding the human being to his former life is hard to break, especially during the weeks immediately following the death. It was believed that if a woman died in labor, wood from an almond tree or a book should be put in her bed. It was necessary to unmake the bed
