IB Exploration- Term 1 Week 1

Key Concepts

As a student in the IB Primary Years Programme, you will explore the 8 Key Concepts during your 6 Units of Inquiry in 2013. As a result, it is important that you learn about each of the concepts and understand how extensive they are. Area 1; To help us recognise the concepts and understand when we are using them in everyday life, the PYP has provided some simple questions to describe each one. Match each concept to the appropriate question- some are more obvious than others!

Change Reflection Function Responsibility Causation Form Perspective Connection

Why is it like it is? How does it work? What is it like? How is it changing? What are the points of view? How is it connected to other things? How do we know? What is our responsibility?

Area 2; Because concepts are such extensive, wide reaching ideas, sometimes other words (synonyms) give us a clue when one of the 8 concepts is present. For example; New Zealanders occupations have altered drastically over the past 30 years. (Change) Both political parties are in disagreement over the new proposal. (Perspective) The volcanic activity has been influenced by heavy rainfall in the past week. (Causation) For your opening unit of the year, find out the concepts you are exploring and research a collection of synonyms for each. This will help you throughout the unit.
