Lemonade Day Primary Reflection Abigail Mills George Washington University Section 29 March 20, 2013 What do you hope to gain from this experience? I feel that teaching in the DC community for Lemonade Day I will gain useful experience relevant to my coursework as a student in the GWSB. Overall, I expect to practice my public speaking and delivery in a community setting. Furthermore, it is always a learning experience working in a team setting. On a contextual note, I feel that by teaching lessons about money I will be reminded on the benefits of being frugal and overall reminded to be a wise consumer.

What fear, if any, do you have about working in the community/ facilitating a lesson for 4th -7th graders? The only challenge I feel going into facilitating a lesson for 4th through 7th graders would be how to make learning about money fun. Money is a tough topic so I am a little uneasy as to how to make talking about money easy to understand.

Why is this service learning project important to the community? It is very important to teach kids money lessons early on. Additionally, I believe having a money foundation or basic understanding of capital will help the children become financially responsible. Learning about money is not obsolete; we all have financial personalities, but to be able to instill principles in children is truly invaluable and a privilege to be a part of as a GWU student.

Lemonade Day Primary Reflection How does this project relate to you as a GWSB student and the mission of GWSB? The topic of kids and money is very relevant to both my education as a GWSB and the overall mission of the GWSB. Lemonade Day will introduce real life financial lessons and. I am excited to be working to improve the financial literacy of some of Washingtons youth and find this to be pertinent to the GWSB in that Lemonade Day demonstrates GWs involvement in the local community. As a student I am proud to assist in teaching kids to save money and equally excited to be able to pass on some of the education GW has given me to young kids.
