WHY PEOPLE JOIN WEAC

Governor Walker sought to destroy our union with his so-called budget repair bill. What he did instead was demonstrate to all school employees the importance of belonging to a union. His attacks have only reminded us all that a union's greatest strength is the collective strength of its members. When you join WEAC, you add to our union's collective voice. Our union grows stronger with every additional member that joins. That strength improves our advocacy for our students, for fair school funding, for equitable school board policies, and for the restoration of our collective bargaining rights. In addition, as a member of WEAC, you are eligible for a number of benefits and services not available to non-members: WEACMEMBERS Bargaining & representation on "base wages" only WEAC representation and legal advice on matters like: Non-renewals & Terminations Individual employment contracts Unemployment insurance Workers' compensation Licensure / certification Family & Medical Leave Act Discrimination Sexual harassment Academic freedom .Disability benefits School board policies Free financial planning appointments & seminars Assistance with Professional Development Plans (POPs) National Board certification support Discounts on individuallegaLmatters (e.g. wills; family law) $1 million professional liability insurance Access to cost-effective homeowners insurance, auto insurance and other financial products through WEA Trust and NEA Member Benefits Through WEACSavers Club, discounts on hotels, restaurants, vacations and much more.
