MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCE STRATEGY EFFECT ON ACHIEVEMENT AND ATTITUDE AMONG HIGH SCHOOL CHEMISTRY STUDENTS

By: Jocelyn I. Kong Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of using Musical Intelligence Strategy on students achievement and attitude toward Chemistry. The sample consisted of fifty nine third year high school students of the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College. The students were grouped according to their field of interest irregardless of their general average in the previous curriculum. The Quasi-Experiment Pretest-Posttest Research Design was employed but the intact classes were randomly assigned as experimental and control groups. The t-test result showed that students exposed to musical intelligence strategy gave a higher achievement scores than those who were not. The ANCOVA results showed no significant difference p > 0.05 but maybe considered meaningful in terms of the attitude of the students toward chemistry between the experimental and the control group with or without musical intelligence. It further showed that the effect of musical intelligence strategy on students achievement and attitude toward chemistry is not influenced by whether or not they possess musical intelligence. The findings point to the conclusion that the musical intelligence strategy is one strategy that can be used in presenting science concepts to maximize learning. The strategy appeared to be effective not only for students who have musical intelligence but for all types of students whatever multiple intelligences they possessed.
