The First City of the Valley


During the 1840s, San Fernando had a brief gold rush. They were searching the area for nuggets of gold. They became the one of the valleys first organized community. Therefore, it became known as First City of the Valley.

History
San Fernandos history made it possible to become a great community. The City of San Fernando was named after the nearby San Fernando Rey mission. San Fernando was a part of the Mexican land grant. The founder of San Fernando bought 56,000 acres of that Rancho.

Geography
San Fernandos geography made it possible to be a great community. Los Angeles surrounds San Fernando. After World War II, San Fernando changed it self to a suburban area. Sylmar is to the North, Lake View Terrace the east, and Pacoima to the south, and Mission Hills to the west of San Fernando.

Demographics
In the United States 2010 Census, the city of San Fernando had a population of 23,645.The population density was 9,959 per square mile. In the 2000 United States Census, had a population of 23,564.

Economy
As of 2009, the top employer of San Fernando was LAUSD.LAUSD had a total of 490 employees. The second top employer of San Fernando was PureTek.

Education
San Fernando education is served by LAUSD. LAUSD schools include OMelveny, Gridley, San Fernando, etc. LAUSD schools also include SFMS, SFHS, Morningside, etc.
