Introduction
Hot melt extrusion (HME) technology itself can be defined as process where a material which melt or softens at elevated temperature and pressure is forced through an orifice by screw. Since 1930, it has been used in plastic and food industry. In the 1980s, BASF SE was the first to apply this process for pharmaceutical using PVPs.
