Micah: Judgment and Hope

Introductory

• Name: who is like Yahweh

• Location: Moresheth, Southern Kingdom

• Background: prophesied during Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah’s reign

• Time: 750 BC; Assyria was the primary power and it was a time of prosperity in Northern
and Southern Israel

• Moral/Religious Background: exploitation of the poor by the rich, violence against


neighbors, treachery, witchcraft, heathen rituals, child sacrifice, silencing God’s true
prophets

• Audience: mostly the Southern Kingdom, but some to the Northern

A. The announcement of judgment on both Israel and Judah

1. There will be a re-gathering by God of the people
