Old Fashioned Fourth of July CELEBRATION Thursday, July 4th 2013, 4-6 pm Newell House Museum, by Champoeg Park
Champoeg, Ore. Come to Champoeg to enjoy the 4th of July as Oregonians celebrated it in the 1850s and hear the Oregon Statehood debate of 1858. The Fifth Annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration will feature the live reenactment of the historic figures Robert Doc Newell, his friend Joe Meek and a colorful French-Canadian Fur Trapper. It will also include the lively fiddling of Truman Price and Julliard School of Music student and guest baritone soloist Benjamin Lund. This event is interactive and fun for the entire family. Participate in an Oregon History Bee; join in reading the Declaration of Independence; listen and dance to live fiddle music of the period and sing the patriotic songs of American freedom. Bring your blanket or folding chairs and a picnic supper, or help support Newell House by purchasing strawberry shortcake and hot dogs. For those who those who love to bake pies, bring your best home-made pie to compete for bragging rights for the Best of French Prairie! Pies to be tasted and judged by an illustrious panel of historical and local characters. The pies will be auctioned off after the judging, with proceeds going to support the Newell House Museum and the Butteville School. The 2013 Old Fashioned Patriotic Fourth of July Picnic will be held from 4 to 6pm on the west lawn at the Historic Newell House at Champoeg. Picnic attendance and Newell House Museum parking are free; donations to Historic Newell House are appreciated!
Entrance into the Newell House Museum for historical tours is $4.00 per adult, $3.00 per Senior, AAA member or DAR member, and $2.00 for children. Come early if you would like a tour!
