Thursday, July 10, 2008

By Dennis B. Roddy, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

HARRISBURG -- A statewide grand jury has returned a presentment recommending criminal charges
against several former state aides as well as at least one high ranking former state legislator, sources
said.
Attorney General Tom Corbett is expected to announce the presentment and the charges during an
afternoon press conference here.
For the past 17 months Mr. Corbett's office has investigated possible corruption in connection with $1.8
million in tax-payer funded bonuses paid to state employees who worked on state House election
contests in 2006.
The investigation has focused on the roles of former House Minority Whip Michael Veon, D-Beaver,
and a half dozen top House aides, including Michael Manzo, former chief of staff to House Majority
Leader H. William DeWeese, D-Greene.
