PM Towards Right Decision For Women And Children Safety

Over the increasing crime related incidents mainly rape, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while addressing on the conference of Chief Ministers on internal security sought to set an institutional mechanism which will be functional for the safety and security of women and children. It would be setting up especially in the urban areas. He stressed on the initiative to be taken for their protection. Addressing the conference, Dr. Singh said such issue which requires collective action was that of crimes against women and children for which the government has already enacted several laws to provide rigorous punishment and more sensitive treatment of victims during investigation and trial. Such mechanisms include sensitization of police personnel, peculiarly at the levels of which the victim seems to come into contact, setting up devoted helplines, measures steps for safety at the work place, and so on. The prime minister through his statement said I urge you to explore how these outcomes can be best achieved. However, Mr. Singh did not fail to give reference to the recently enacted Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 for safety and security of women and children. And also captivated the attention of the chief ministers towards the growth in number and intensity level of incidents of communal violence in 2012 than the previous year. He stressed on it by saying that this requires special attention. Really, no doubt to be agree with the facts that the maintenance of communal harmony in the country is critical for our continued growth and prosperity. It is utterly insistent that we deal with such incidents very firmly with communal forces of all types. What we also need to focus on simultaneously is to recognize and address the special needs of minorities and weaker sections of our society, specially Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
