PROBLEM:
A toner cartridge is leaking causing print quality defects on all output.

CAUSE:
Improper removal of the shipping cover could cause a tab, as seen in Figure 1, to damage the toner cartridge creating a toner leak.

Figure 2 A new cover has been designed and was cut into manufacturing on November 9, 2009. To determine if a toner cartridge was manufactured with the new or old style cover check the serial number for the date of manufacture, see Figure 3. Toner cartridges with a serial number prior to xxxxx9Y09x were manufactured with the old style cover.

SOLUTION:
If the toner cartridge is leaking it will need to be replaced. To remove the cover from a toner cartridge, move the handle in the direction of the arrow, as shown in Figure 2, so the tab is moved away from the toner cartridge when the cover is removed.

The new design has a smaller tab to avoid damaging the toner cartridge and also includes a second handle to aid in the safe removal of the cover, see Figure 4. 1 of 2
