Moncton
Youth
Recreation
Assistance
Program
(myRap)

The
City
of
Moncton,
in
partnership
with
the
YMCA
of
Greater
Moncton,

launched
the
Moncton
Youth
Recreation
Assistance
Program
(MyRap),
at
a

press
conference
Tuesday
April
28,
2009,
held
at
the
YMCA.

MyRap
provides
limited
Financial
assistance
for
children
to
participate
in

recreation
programs
who
could
not
otherwise
afford
the
registration
fee.

The
purpose
for
this
program
is
to
give
every
child
and
family
the

opportunity
to
participate
in
recreation
activities.

“It
is
vital
that
every
child
be
presented
with
the
same
opportunities
regardless
of
Financial

ability,
whether
it
be
in
recreation
or
the
arts.
Each
person
has
a
unique
ability
and
it
is
our

hope
that
MyRap
will
help
foster
this
talent
in
an
disadvantaged
child
in
our
city,”
said

Moncton
City
Councillor
Paul
Pellerin.
“We
are
thrilled
to
be
able
to
partner
with
the
YMCA

of
Greater
Moncton
to
provide
this
service
for
our
residents.”

MyRap
is
the
newest
addition
to
the
Financial
assistance
portfolio
at
the
YMCA
of
Greater

Moncton,
providing
additional
funding
to
help
more
children
and
youth
participate
in

recreational
activities.
Other
programs
provided
through
the
YMCA
include
JumpStart
and

KidSport.

“Each
year,
our
YMCA
helps
over
1,500
families
by
providing
them
with
direct
Financial

assistance
for
our
own
program,”
said
Zane
Korytko,
CEO
of
the
YMCA
of
Greater
Moncton.

“Now
with
MyRap,
we
can
reach
out
to
even
more
people
in
our
community.
Every
child,

regardless
of
their
ability
to
pay
fees
or
equipment,
should
be
able
to
participate
in
any
kind

of
activity
or
sport.”
