June 14, 2013 Dear Parents/Guardians, In keeping with our school board theme, By Our Works, We Show Our Faith, the students in Mr. Fischers and Ms. Izsaks class will be participating in a sandwich making project for the Shepherds of Good Hope. This project, while directly benefiting the Shepherds of Good Hope, will also enable your child to have the opportunity to give back to the community. Students will organize themselves into groups, approximately four students per group. Each group will have the opportunity to prepare sandwiches in class on Wednesday, June 19. These sandwiches will be refrigerated at school, picked up by the Shepherds of Good Hope on Thursday, June 20 and distributed to their clients that evening. In order to co-ordinate this class project, we are asking that each student contribute a suggested five dollars worth of supplies (e.g., bread, mustard, margarine, meats,) Having students "earn" this five dollars (by way of household chores, etc.) may be another undertaking you, as a parent/guardian, may wish to pursue. This way, students are able to attach their efforts to a worthwhile endeavour. At the end of our sandwich making project, any surplus of supplies will also be given to the Shepherds of Good Hope. Things to keep in mind: A loaf of regular white bread makes approximately 10 sandwiches. A sandwich consists of two slices of bread, margarine, mustard, and one slice of meat. In order to make as many sandwiches as possible, the most economical ingredients should be used. No-name brand products are quite appropriate, as are items reduced for quick sale since the sandwiches will be consumed quite soon after their preparation. Meats such as bologna, ham, and mock chicken loaf are usually the least expensive luncheon meats available and very suitable for this project.

Sandwiches will be made, placed back into bread bags, stored in boxes, and then refrigerated until pick-up by the Shepherds of Good Hope on Thursday morning. If your child will be participating in this project, they have been asked to bring: _______________ _______________ loaf of bread container of mustard _______________ luncheon meat

_______________ container of margarine

It is hoped that your child will be able to take part in this very worthwhile project. Sincerely, Ian Fischer Kim Izsak
