Salad Days - In May 2012, I was asked by the Petts Wood Operatic Society to work on their production of Salad Days at the STAG Theatre in Sevenoaks. I spent two days prior to the opening night setting up. I didnt use any microphones for the band because they were on stage which had pros and cons, being that I only had to focus on the levels of the radio microphones for the actors/vocalists but was difficult when I had no level control over the band to balance the sound in the theatre. It was a fairly simple show with not many sound effect cues and 10 radio mics.

Freshers & Transporter - Having a fully working music venue at college with paying customers gives the benefits of working on sound for gigs and shows, building confidence and experience. The first show I worked on was two Freshers nights for first years within the Miskin (dancers, actors, musicians and technicians). This was one of my first experiences within live sound which greatly improved my understanding. I encountered difficulties with knowing which instruments were being used at which point but by the second night it was much easier. The levels and overall sound was good.

The next show I worked on was Transporter which was a first year musicians gig. They played music transporting the audience through musical eras from the 60s to present day. Having a gig of different music genres, constant swapping of instruments and two stages to control meant knowing the running order and having some idea of the show. I was involved in setting up the venue, running cables back to the sound desk using a multicore cable and placing monitors. There werent many problems with this gig that werent immediately resolved or a solution was found.

A Christmas Carol - In November 2012 I worked on sound for the Petts Wood Operatic Society to help with radio microphones as it involved multiple changeovers but was placed on the sound desk at the last minute due to theatre staff issues. I used the script to plan and prepare myself for the opening night. I encountered one feedback issue from foot mics placed at the front of the stage which I quickly amended.
