These days researchers have found that smoking and using headphone affect peoples hearing (Hearing Loss). Smoking can cause hearing loss, this fact was revealed through the past studies which speculated that cigarette smoke has toxic effect on cells in the inner ear that are important to hearing. Then the study continued by using 20,000 residents of Beaver Dams, Wisconsin as samples, then the result said that the more people smoked, the greater were their odds for at least a mild hearing loss. People who smoke an average of one pack a day for 40 years were 30% more likely to have a hearing loss than consumers smokers who consumed a pack each day for 10 years, beside that the earlier study found that cigarettes smokers run two to three times the risk of developing age-relate macular degeneration. Beside that, using a personal stereo headphone can also risen the risk of hearing loss. Previous studies said that regular listening to loud music using stereo headphone is a risk factor for hearing loss in teenager. The next studies uses more than 1,000 young man as samples, they analyze the men who went to rock concerts and disco twice a month, men who worked in noisy occupations and men who listened to personal stereos. The result shows that the headphone usage was strongly dependent on the presence or the absence of repeated otitis media in infancy and childhood. Another fact that is also revealed said that an increased risk of acute acoustic trauma and frequent tinnitus in the men who had history of ear infections.
