CONFIRMED Review of BA Mass Communication and Media Arts (Athens) Event held on 28 May 2012 at AKMI Metropolitan College,

Patision Street, Athens 1.1 Outcome The Programme was validated for a period of five years commencing in September 2012, subject to satisfactory completion of the conditions below. 1.2 1.2.1 1.2.2 Conditions That the Team provide fuller information on the assessment of the Internship module, with associated guidance for students and workplace supervisors. That the Team provide information on the procedure for approving student projects involving external participants (such as films, interviews and focus groups) so as to ensure protection for participants and students. This procedure should then be used as the basis of a formal application for generic ethical approval from the University. That the Team amend the programme documentation as follows: to clarify the assessment weightings for modules with multiple assessment components to set out the transition arrangements for students who require to repeat or defer modules.

The above conditions are to be met by 30 July 2012. 1.3 1.3.1 Recommendations That QMU moderation of translated student work cease for all modules except Research Methods. For this module moderation should continue for at least one year and thereafter at the discretion of the Joint Board of Studies. That the Team consider how to promote greater awareness of student representation mechanisms and give further thought as to how students at Athens and Thessaloniki could be enabled to share their views on the programme.

That AKMI Metropolitan College and IEK-AKMI give further consideration to whether more academic content could be introduced to the IVT Diploma programmes in order to better prepare students for degree level study. That the Team note student feedback regarding the possible need for greater support with production skills in the early stages of the film project. That AMC consider purchasing some lightweight modern cameras for student use. Commendations The Panel commended the Team on the following matters:

The Teams robust articulation of a shared philosophy in relation to the integration of theory and practice within the programme. The evidence that AMC provides an effective learning environment, as demonstrated by the facilities available and positive student feedback regarding staff support. The thoughtful approach to longitudinal induction, in terms of building study skills into the Semester 1 curriculum.
