This sixtieth anniversary commemorative map shows Palestinian villages and towns depopulated in 1948 compared with current Israeli urban regions. The Palestinian Al-Nakbeh (day of catastrophe) observes the May 15, 1948, forcible evacuation of Palestinians from their homes, villages, and towns upon the creation of Israel. More than six hundred villages and towns were depopulated and destroyed, dispersing Palestinians as refugees worldwide. This document is part of a new series of Palestine Alive, Lets Remember, created by Palestine Mapping Center. It is based on historical and recent geographical information and the published works of Palestinian historian Walid Khalidi and Palestinian researcher Salman Abu Sitta. The map and accompanying documents were created with the hope of adding to the knowledge of the Palestinians and their history, and to revive their cultural heritage worldwide.
