Roda III-LEG The Role of Political Theory in an Era of Globalization Globalization is defined as the worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications integration. Globalization, on the other hand, poses challenges and dilemmas which can be addressed by political theory. Among the challenges brought along by globalization, two challenges stand out. The first challenge is on dealing with difference, be it of an ethnic, racial, gendered, cultural, religious, political, ideological or any other nature by which leads to loss of certainty. The second challenge consists of articulating foundations in a world where the nation state has ceased to become the sole and even prime site of political legitimization. Given these challenges, political theory addresses these problems through offering various possibilities in engaging the challenges ahead. Political theory contributes many different insights and approaches towards dealing with the challenges of loss of certainty and weakening of state sovereignty posed by globalization. Political theory also offers rich and highly relevant resources to tackle the challenges of globalization. With globalization , political theory becomes essential in establishing common grounds in situations where conflict may arise. It should also be confronted that during these times of diversity and cross-cultural interaction,

a global dialogue must be sought. Common grounds and an atmosphere of trust and tolerance should be established.
