MISSING CHILD PROCEDURE

At Preschool
1. Stay calm
2. Alert all other teachers and search immediate area; send a staff member to
search immediate area
3. One teacher alerts and searches the High School. Another teacher to search
surrounding roads. Both teachers will carry cell phones.
4. Take roll and contain other children without alarming them.
5. If child not found on initial search, police are notified..
6. Contact Queen’s High School for assistance and as many staff as ratios allow to
continue searching.
7. With advice from the police, parents are contacted as is the chairperson of the
preschool trust.
8. Afterwards – A debriefing to be held with staff, services and parents. Support
Agencies will be used if required.

On An Outing

1. Stay calm
2. Teachers will conduct an initial search of area
3. If child not found, phone Police using cell phone. Alert preschool of the situation
4. If possible seek help from members of public to stay with one teacher and
children while other teacher continues to search. Both teachers will carry cell
phones.
5. With advice from police, parents are contacted as is the chair person of the
preschool trust.
6. Afterwards a debriefing to be held with teachers, services and parents. Support
Agencies will be used if required.
