BA IN PERFORMING ARTS MODEL ANSWERS FALL SEMESTER 2012-2013 MODULE: PREPARING A PERFORMANCE-MODERN PLAY TUTOR: KOSTAS VANTZOS ASSISTANT:

ADONIS GALEOS A. JOURNAL The students are required to hand in a reflective journal on the 15th week of semester. The journal will be a personal expository essay explicating in detail the experience of preparing an assigned role which includes: Understanding the process of staging a performance from the first production meeting to the closing night reading the entire play from which their scene is taken from analyzing and researching the characters understanding and incorporating new techniques in their acting process realizing their shortcomings and strengths, and planning a rehearsal strategy towards the presentation of a performance Cooperating with a group

B. MODERN DRAMA PERFORMANCE The final examination of this module is a public performance, in which all the students of the BA in Performing Arts take part. The play which is being staged is a version of The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder, processed in such a way that each one of the students will have an equal part, with specific tasks that will entail the presentation of the required acting skills. Students will be assessed on: their interpretation and performance their understanding of the text and the character which they present their corporeal strategies in depicting a character their capacity to communicate the plot, the main action and the mood of the each scene, as well as the transitions from one beat to another their ability to create an artistic whole out of the blocking suggested by the director their voice, use of pitch, inflection, intonation and projection

C. QUESTIONNAIRE The students will be called to provide short answers (no more than 100 words each) to a questionnaire comprising of 10 questions reflecting on particulars of the rehearsal process and the run of the performances.
