Communications and Marketing Officer Job Title: Location: Salary: Communications and Marketing Officer Southwark, London 27,000

(16,200 pro rata for 21 hours per week days negotiable)

Established in Bangladesh 40 years ago, BRAC is now one of the largest development organisations in the world, with programmes in 11 countries across Africa and Asia. BRAC UK, an affiliate of BRAC, works to increase awareness about BRAC in the UK as well raise resources for its programmes in Africa and Asia. We want more people to know the remarkable story of BRAC, a hugely successful, well established, innovative southern-based NGO, ranked No.1 in the top 100 NGOs listing this year. We want to spread the news through a variety of media. Our communications strategy will support and strengthen our fundraising work by increasing our profile amongst different potential supporters, donor groups and media channels, enabling us to raise more funds for BRACs programmes. This new post offers the opportunity for a motivated communications and marketing professional to develop quality communications about BRACs work globally for our key audiences in the UK and Europe. Key responsibilities include: We are seeking a person with experience of working as a communications and marketing professional in the charity sector, skilled in the use of a wide range of media, creative, innovative and resourceful, Internal communications Support BRAC UK office initiatives on communications Build and maintain close working and collaborative relationships with BRACs communications teams internationally, liaising regularly to avoid duplication of effort or contradictory messaging Work closely with the Administrative, Finance and IT Officer and other UKbased team members to ensure that the contacts database is populated and maintained so that it facilitates efficient, effective e-communications, relevant to the different audiences Ensure that agreed key messages are used consistently in all BRAC UK communications

External communications: resources and channels Resources Develop creative resources, working with our international communications teams and any agencies we may use Draft and edit key communications and marketing materials, including leaflets, brochures and annual reports, and ensure easy access to stocks of these materials Support and advise staff to collect and develop relevant case studies and visual stories, e.g. when they visit programmes overseas Draft and edit content for e-newsletters, adapting content from other internal and external organisational newsletters as appropriate Supported by programme staff, develop content for e-fundraising campaigns, and work closely with the Finance, Administrative and IT Officer on reviewing their effectiveness Maintain liaison with the A/V team in Bangladesh to add/retrieve photos and videos from central repositories, and ensure easy access for BRAC UK staff to these materials. Also ensure compliance with BRACs photo crediting and usage guidelines

Websites management Develop and manage BRAC UKs website content, including compelling case studies and appeals, also re-actions to events, and ensure that key stakeholders and donor groups have easy access to information they need in order to support BRACs work. Ensure that information about BRAC UK is promoted, and create up-to-date and relevant publicity on other websites e.g. the Big Give, Charity Aid Foundation, etc. Promote maximum use of BRAC UKs website.

Social media Develop and manage BRAC UKs presence on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Google+). Research and adopt best practices as appropriate Successfully complement fund raising goals with monthly/annual social media goals Work closely with BRACs global social media team with representatives from Bangladesh and USA to benefit from cross posting, as well as to align with BRACs global social media policies

Media Maintain and grow liaison with UK and European media and journalists, including facilitating interviews and programme visits Develop a press kit for BRAC UK Create press releases as required Maintain a file of all BRAC UK press Liaise with international media desks and global advocacy specialists to ensure a co-ordinated approach Assist in developing strategic processes to leverage any media coverage

Events Assist the Chief Executive, and Board memebers as required, in planning and preparing for events and speaking opportunities to promote BRAC, by organising logistics and preparing required speaker briefings and publicity materials

Brand compliance Ensure that all BRAC UK communications comply with BRACs global brand guidelines

Other Be the key point of contact at BRAC UK for all queries relating to communications about BRAC and its work Undertake other activities that lie within the remit of this role, as directed by the Chief Executive

Person Specification Communications and Marketing Officer Essential Desirable Qualification Qualification, or equivalent, in PR/digital media Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent writing and editing skills including ability to analyse relevant material and present in a succinct manner Able to generate interesting and engaging content for use in a variety of media and for a variety of audiences Excellent IT skills web literate, Excel, Word, Outlook, creating e-newsletters Excellent organisational and planning skills

At least three years experience of working in a communications and/or marketing role in other organisations in the charity sector Significant experience of website management Significant experience of successfully using and promoting social media in an organisational setting Experience of working across a variety of online platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs in an organisations setting Experience of creating digital content e.g. website, Facebook, posts, tweets Innovative and creative Able to work without direct supervision Able to work well in a team Flexible and able to work outside normal office hours occasionally

Experience of using InDesign and/or Illustrator desktop publishing software Experience in the international development sector Networks in media
