Executive Proposal

SUBJ: Proposal to provide Stellenbosch University with a shuttle bus service between Bellville Station and Stellenbosch University Main Campus. Following Stellenbosch Universitys request for transport between Bellville Station and the universitys main campus, Maties Roadlink would like to offer their services to the university in creating an effective and efficient shuttle bus system to cater for as many students as possible. In doing so we hope to reduce the number of cars on and around campus, and alleviate the pressure on infrastructure already used to over capacity. Shuttle buses would be used to transport students at 4 peak periods during the day, in order to accommodate students with a variety of commitments. Buses would leave Bellville at 6.30, 12.45 and 17.00 to arrive at Stellenbosch Campus in time for morning lectures, afternoon lectures and sport respectively. Buses would leave Stellenbosch Campus at 13.15, 17.15 and 20.00, for those students wishing to return to Bellville Station after morning lectures, afternoon lectures or sport. In this way more students will have the opportunity to use the shuttle bus system, and there will be fewer cars clogging up the university campus. A larger amount of buses will be available for the 6.30 journey from Bellville, as this is most likely to have the most students. The scheme would have an initial implementation cost of around R500 000, after which it will cost around R40 000 per month (factoring in the costs of petrol, drivers, vehicle maintenance and other incidentals). Maties Roadlink is highly qualified to implement this system, as we are experienced in the public transport services. We have already implemented similar such systems for Paul Roos Gymnasium and a number of old age homes in and around Stellenbosch. I have personally headed two such operations and have 15 years experience in the field of public transport and roads. The systems that Maties Roadlink has implemented have been highly successful. Most have even been expanded with time to become more extensive.
