Claude Oscar Monet

Introduction
Claude Oscar Monet was born in Paris 1840. He was one of the most famous painters, He specializes in impressionism. He loved to paint every day, which was what he did for most of his life.

Early life
He began school in 1851. He studied lot of subjects like art. He was well Known for caricatures when he was 15 he would draw his teacher and local people. He would get paid for each drawing he made. His art work was displayed in the frame maker shop. When his mother died he moved to Le Havre. In Le Havre he meet Eugene Boudin, he taught Monet how to draw impressions. His father wanted him to carry on the family grocery business but Monet refused to do it instead he wanted to become an artist. I June 1861 he joined the army for a seven year commitment. Two year later Monet got typhoid fever and his aunt got him out of the army and agreed to do an art course. Career He studied with a Dutch landscape painter. He was named Johan Jongkind. He moved back to Paris and that were he married Camille Doncieux. In 1865 he enter an art show, people loved his art. Monet moved to Argenteuil where he decided to make a group called the society of anonymous painters, sculptors and Printer. He made the group with his friends Renoir, Pissarro and Manet. At the exhibition Monet had people criticized his Impression Sunrise. Someone said it was just an impression and that were the word impressionism came from. Camille Gave birth to Jean Monet in 1867.

The war
In 1870 a war call the Franco Prussian war brought the city of Paris to its knees, luckily Monet smuggled him and his family to London. He loved to draw the house of parliament and then Camille became pregnant and gave birth to Michel Monet. Soon after giving birth to Michel Camille became sick and then died of Tuberculosis. Monet painted her on her death bed. Later life After a while in London he moved to the Netherlands he made 25 paintings during him time in the Netherlands. Later he moved to Vtheuil where he lived with Alice Hosched and Ernest Hosched. Soon Ernest became bankrupt so he moved to Belgium. Later Monet and Alice got married. In May 1883 the big family moved to Giverny in France. The house was very big and had beautiful flowers and trees. Monet had 5 gardeners and he made them take out the orchard and replace them with other plants of trees. Every day he made the gardeners clean the lilies so they were always bright and cheerful. He made a Japanese style bridge and he would paint it very often. 1923 he had cataracts we got them removed so he was blind. He would still paint because he loved it so much. He couldnt see the colours properly so end up making a painting with random colours. Monet was a chain smoker, when he finished using a cigarette he would light another. Sadly he died of lung cancer.
