Unfamiliar responsibilities refer to tasks or responsibilities assigned to a person (employee) that are beyond the scope of his/her job description and that are not well-known or familiar to that person. By definition, it is well understood that unfamiliar responsibilities put the employee in a difficult position since he/she doesnt have any previous experience regarding such task, the employee may lack the expertise required to perform that responsibility and there might be still high expectation from him/her. In such a scenario, he/she needs to deal with tasks that are new, different or much broader than the previous ones. In such a scenario, while dealing with unfamiliar responsibilities, I will do the following things. i. Discuss with supervisor to gain any insight about the task. I will do this in order to let him know the difficulties that may arise due to inexperience and also to seek support from him if possible. ii. Discuss with peers (with whom a close interpersonal relationship is established) to share their experiences about any such task. iii. Move on with the task using own knowledge, skills; applying own judgements and following judgement-based intuition. Since this is a great opportunity for individual development and also a great platform to showcase my adaptive and leadership skills, I will step forward to accomplish my responsibility. During the process, I will use any relevant experience or knowledge that I have gathered, and will make judgement based on my analytical skill.
