Actress Carol Dunitz sent me the following: "Just back from a triumphant performance at NYCs Metropolitan Room, Carol Dunitz is embarking on a tour out west with her one woman musical, Bernhardt on Broadway. Dunitz brings you into her 19th century parlor for personal anecdotes and catchy songs full of sly innuendo and clever rhymes, and makes you feel you have spent an intimate evening with Madame Sarah. --UPSTAGE Theatre Journal. The writer/composer/actor will be in Santa Fe from August 1 through August 4 and is booking Salon Performances. Call 312.523.4774 or email CDunitz@BernhardtOnBroadway.com to learn more about booking a performance in your home (Salon Performance tickets are $20). http://www.bernhardtonbroadway.com/ "
The Merci Train Boxcar in Albuquerque (Photo F.M. Patorni) The French 40&8 boxcars were used during World War I to transport 40 soldiers or 8 horses throughout the battle zones. To show their appreciation for the American support, after the war the people of France presented one car full of gifts to each state. New Mexico's boxcar fell into disrepair and was eventually restored. Many of the original gifts it contained have been recovered and the boxcar now serves as a small museum of French culture at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds in Albuquerque. There is also a display of some gifts in the Socorro Municipal Library, next to a painting by French painter Lon Trousset.
