    DRUG ANALYSIS

    Name of Drug Furosemide

    Generic Name Lasix

    Dosage 20 mg/tab

    Indication Inhibits the reabsorption of sodium and chloride from the loop of henle and distal renal tubule. Diereses and subsequent mobilization of excess fluid. Increase renal excretion of water, sodium, chloride, magnesium, hydrogen and calcium.

    Drug Interaction NSAIDs - Increase the risk for hypertension on the patient

    Adverse Effect Hypersensitivity Cross-sensitivity with thiazides and sulfonamides may occur. Pre-existing electrolyte imbalance, hepatic comaor anuria.

    Nursing Responsibility Assess fluid status during therapy. Monitor daily wiegth, intake and output ratio. Monitor bloodpressure and pulse before and during administration. Assess for allergy to sulfonamides.
