8 Daily Schedule Week 1 Thursday

Activity Unexpected effects of change 1) TSW make a circle 2) TTW instruct the students to hold onto the string and toss the ball (while holding the string) to a classmate who is not directly next to them and who does not have a piece of string already. As they toss the string, students must say a number. The receiving student will answer the question with the corresponding number. If time permits, students may "drop" their first web and make a second web with the second set of questions 3) TTW ask "what type of structure have we made?" 4) TSW respond - one should say a web - TTW guide them to realize that the web is like a network 5) TTW ask what is special about a structure of a network? What limitations were there in this network thatare not typical in most other networks? What are some examples of networks? 1) TTW ask students the preliminary question: "Give me some examples of how Inventions have Changed history" 2) TSW brainstorm inventions that have changed the course of history 3) TSW watch the TedEd video 4) TTW distribute the video reflection questions & ask students to choose 2 of the three questions to answer (they are free to work with a partner or by themselves) 5) TSW share their responses as the teacher shares the slide for each of the questions 1) TTW invite students to form a circle with their chairs 2) TTW pass out 2-3 tickets to each student and explain that each time a student shares an opinion he/she must toss a ticket into the center of the circle. Once their tickets are gone, they may not share again until EVERYONE'S tickets are gone (if you have an older/more mature group they may not need this extra regulation) 3) TSW share their responses to the question and ask additional questions to their peers Time
