PARAMETERS:

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE WEIGHT OF THE DEPOSITED ADHESIVE AND THE THICKNESS OF RELATIVE DRY FILM & coverage (spreading rate) calculation
Pa = Weight of deposited adhesive (grams) Pb = Weight of residuum adhesive after full evaporation of solvents ( in grams ) Sp = Surface on which the adhesive has been coated ( square centimetres ) = pads area surface D = Density of the used adhesive (grams/cube centimetres) -detectable from the Technical Data Sheet Ha = Thickness of the wet film of the adhesive just deposited in microns ( 1 micron = 0,000001 mm) Hb = Thickness of the dry film after full evaporation of solvents (in microns) easily detectable with a digital thickness film detector N = Absolute value of % solids content of the used adhesive (pure number without dimensions) (detectable from the Technical Data Sheet)

HYPOTHESIS Weight of the coated adhesive is proportional to the occupied volume on the metal pad, either before either after the drying. APPROACH Pa: (Sp x Ha) = Pb: (Sp x Hb) Being not available Ha ( normally this is a parameter not easily detectable) we take it from the relationship : D = P/V that in our case becomes (Sp x Ha) = Pa/D Taking Ha = Pa/D x Sp replacing: Pa: Sp x (Pa/D x Sp) = (N x Pa / 100) : (Sp x Hb) Pa: (Pa/D) = (N x Pa/100) : (Sp x Hb) Hb = (Pa/D) x (N x Pa/100) x (1/Pa) x (1/Sp) simplifying: Hb = (Pa x N) / (D x 100 x Sp) The coverage ( or spreading rate ) which is nothing else that a quantity with reference to a surface ,is ,in our case Pa/Sp Will be: Hb x D x 10 Pa/Sp Hb = microns content % D= g/cubic centimeters N= solid

Pa/Sp = grams/square meter
