Education News December 2012 T he UGCs decision is termed as a major step towards ref orms in legal education in the country. All these years, LL.M. was a two-year course like other masters degree courses. T here was a demand by the legal f aculty, students as well as experts to reduce the tenure to one year. T his saves one precious year f or the students. It may also help check the f light of students to universities in the U.K., the U.S., Australia and other countries that of f er the one-year course, they argued. To make the students f eel at ease, many IITs, including IIT-Madras, had a week-long induction programme f or f irst-year students. Even the parents were brief ed about the system and how they need to motivate their children through the curriculum.
