Week 16 Homework: Map Drawing

Think about how you want your final map to look.


~Do you want to use colors? Use color pencils!
~Do you want to add little extra drawings of ships, sea monsters,
compass rose, or Poseidon with his Triton if you have time?
~Practice drawing them now!

HOMEWORK FOR THIS WEEK:


TEST yourself by drawing from memory!!! Then get an Atlas to correct it.
Draw one world map from MEMORY each day, using the paper I gave you.
Final poster board size will be 17 X 22.

Practice:
1. Clearly defined shape of the continents and islands
(sri lanka, iceland etc.) Do not label the continents!
2. Proportion
3. Island groupings of Melanesia/ Micronesia/ Polynesia (angles)labeled.
4. label any countries etc. from MEMORY- then go back to add more
or correct
5. List of Watery things to label. You will have this list with you
when you draw the final map.
6. Major great circles -5 draw these on- know what areas they go across.
~Equator
~Prime Meridian
~Arctic Circle
~Tropic of Capricorn
~Tropic of Cancer

DUE: 4 world maps- it is OK if there are erasing marks-


You SHOULD have erasing marks- none of you can draw the continents
perfectly on the first try. YET! ;o)

Watery things to label:


North Pacific
South Pacific
Atlantic
Indian Ocean
Bay of Bengal
Arabian Sea
Bearing Sea- not straight
Arctic Ocean
Waddell Sea
South China Sea

ANY OTHER WATERY THING IS EXTRA CREDIT (red sea, lakes, gulfs etc…..)
