The History Of Computer

By: Arnishia Taylor

Who Invented Computers
• "Who invented the computer?" is not
a question with a simple answer. The
real answer is that many inventors
contributed to the history of
computers and that a computer is a
complex piece of machinery made up
of many parts, each of which can be
considered a separate invention.
What Is The Computer?
• A computer is a machine that
manipulates data according to a list
of instructions.
When Was The Computer
Invented
• Nobody knows for certain when the first
computer was invented, though there are
many precursors to the modern computer.
Many of them operate on mechanical
rather than electronic principles. The
computers invented prior to the 20th
century were not digital and most were
not programmable. The history of
computers can be traced as far back as
3000 BC .
Where was The Computer
Invented
• The first of the "modern" computers was invented
during World War II, in 1941 by a German
engineer named Konrad Zuse. The computer was
called the Z3 and was used to help design
German airplanes and missles. A couple years
later, in 1943, the Allied forces developed a
computer called Colossus to help decode German
messages. But since the Z3 was developed by the
side that lost the war and Colossus stayed a
military secret for many years, these computers
didn't contribute much to the ones that came
next.
Why Was The Computer
Invented?
• Computers were created to do math
for navigation and general
calculation purposes. Collosus, the
first electronic computer, was built to
crack the enigma code.
