1. Dracula

Dracula is supposed to have lived in Transylvania and be a vampire. Reality: Vlad Tepes (the ruler that inspired the character) resided all his adult live in a different region of Romania and never lived in Bran Castle (Draculas Castle). His methods of punishment were common in those times. There are ,though, many legends about vampires in the Romanian mythology.

2.Gypsys

There is the misbelief that all Romanians are Gypsys . They are in fact one of the minorities in Romania, around 3% of the total population. There are many cultural and social differences between the two of them and should not be mixed. Some of them are very talented musicians.

3.Russian

Many people believe that Romanian is a language similar to Russian or that Romania was part of USSR. Reality: Romanian is a Romance language, belonging to the Italic branch of the IndoEuropean language family, having much in common with languages such as French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. There are Slavic influences (c. 14% of the words) but thats all. Romania was never part of USSR.

4.Budapest

Almost every international band that plays in Bucharest says something like Hello, Budapest !, even tourists visiting Romania and CNN make the confusion. Budapest is the capital of Hungary, not Romania ! ! !
