West Orange Plans to Upgrade Shuttle Service with Four New Buses
June 12, 2013 WEST ORANGE, NJ Mayor Robert D. Parisi announced today plans to purchase new shuttle buses to replace four of the seven buses that currently service the Township. The vehicles are scheduled to be on the road by the end of year. Shuttle bus transportation is a service provided by the Township to help senior citizen and handicapped residents get around town for doctor appointments, food shopping and many other helpful transportation needs. The buses also serve residents who commute to and from the South Orange and Orange train stations Monday through Friday, except major holidays as determined by New Jersey Transit. The funding for the four shuttle buses will be coming from reappropriating existing capital. There will be no increase in net debt for Township taxpayers. This service impacts a significant number of residents who rely on the shuttles for their transportation needs. The buses provide an essential value for the seniors and handicapped residents in our community. They also make it easy for West Orange commuters, who often cite that the jitneys are one of the reasons they chose to live in West Orange, Mayor Parisi said. ### Contact: Jessica Glicker jglicker@westorange.org 973-325-4133
