 Penelope
somehow slept
through fight.
 Eurycleia comes
and tells
Penelope.
 Penelope thinks
she has gone
insane.
 Penelope finally
Odysseus’s plan
 Odysseus realizes
that the families
would notice the
missing suitors –
pride of Ithica
 Everyone is to dress
up nice then play
wedding music.
 All passing would
think that Penelope
finally married a
suitor, unaware of
the slaughter.
 Go out to estates –
Penelope tests Odysseus
 Penelope does not
believe that the
person she is seeing
is Odysseus – still in
rags
 Subtle test – orders
servant to do what
only Odysseus
knows is impossible,
move the bed.

 Odysseus sorta
immediately
recognizes this and
tells her why this is
Tying up loose ends

 Penelope and
Odysseus go into
bedroom…
 … and Odysseus
tells his story
 Athena wakes
Odysseus in the
morning.
 Odysseus leaves
with Telemachus,
disguised by
Athena.
