SKIN CARE FOR PATIENT WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY

If in bed, a regular turning schedule (at least every 2 hours) that includes sides, back, and abdomen is encouraged to change position. Use special mattresses and wheelchair cushions to reduce pressure. Use pillows to protect bony prominences when in bed. Monitor Skin Condition Inspect skin frequently for areas of redness, swelling, and breakdown. Keep fingernails trimmed to avoid scratches and abrasions. If a wound develops, follow standard wound care management procedures.
