Nursing Care of Anaesthetic Patient:

1. The patient is attached to an ECG monitor.

2. Monitor vital signs such as pulse rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation and color. These are observed and recorded.

3. Monitor the patients level of consciousness and provide oxygen therapy.

4. Maintain airway e.g. positioning the patient and suctioning if necessary.

5. Maintain body temperature and keep patient warm.

6. Prevent the patient from falling by keeping the side rails up, never leave alone.

7. Maintain infusion of intravenous fluids.

8. Accurate record of input and output.

9. Relieve post operative pain or restlessness by providing analgesics and maintaining position.

10. Observe for possibility of immediate complication.

11. Maintain a calm environment while the patient is anaesthetized.

12. Maintain side lying position to prevent aspiration after general anaesthesia.

13. Observe the operative site and record the amount and type of drainage.

14. Maintain record and report.

15. Prepare the patient transfer from the recovery room to the post operative ward or general surgical unit, if the patient is stable, with the permission of anaesthesists, transfer the patient to the post operative ward. -Call or inform to postoperative nursing staffs to relieve the patient. -Transfer the patient from the recovery room to the post operative ward stretcher with the belt strapped to the patients body. The nurse anesthesist reports on the pts condition: -the type of surgery performed -the time and type of anaesthesia given -estimated blood loss and total input and output during the surgery -types and amount of i.v. fluids -types of drains by
