Non-Parental Care
The purpose of this is to inform readers about the concept of non-parental care and how it affects our society and children. It is also the first step to an educational system for young children. After the presentation students should know what to look for in quality non-parental care. Information What is the definition of non-parental care? (1 min) What does non-parental care look like in todays society? (1 min) What is involved in quality care? (2 min) What factors lead to less than optimal care?(2 min) Advocacy, Accreditation, and Quality Child Care (NAEYC) (2 min) How does accreditation take place? (2 min)

Review Answer questions and check for understading (5 min) Have students work with a partner and answer the following questions: 1) What makes for quality care? 2) How can a program receive accreditation? 3) What type of non-parental care would you choose in the future for your own children? Ask each group the answer to the above questions.
