developing people, improving young lives

Introducing IAG & the role of the TDA
• The role of Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) is to help young
people make informed decisions related to education, employment and
training opportunities, and about lifestyle issues which may impact on
these choices

• Trainee teachers need to know about IAG because Newly Qualified

Secondary School teachers should be able to:

– Provide IAG on the range of 14-19 pathways

– Contribute to IAG on learning and progression from their specialist subject(s)
– Know how, when and to whom to refer young people for specialist advice on
progression through learning and work

• The TDA has commissioned a number of resources to assist in providing

impartial, accurate and up-to-date IAG

Developing TDA support for school teachers delivering
IAG in the secondary curriculum

IAG
– Information is aimed at teachers who have no specialist background in
providing IAG, focusing on 14-19 pathways for progression

• Career-related subject resources

– Facilitate teachers in highlighting a careers dimension within subject delivery
as part of delivery of careers education within schools

• Careers coordinator-led projects

– Commissioned projects to illustrate current good practice in the careers
coordinator role and initiate further activities to enhance the provision of IAG
in schools
