Child abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional mistreatment or neglect of a child or children The mistreatment of a child by an Adult In many cases, child abuse and neglect have consequences for children, families, and society that last lifetimes

Scope of the Problem


The impact of abuse is far greater than its immediate, visible effect Abuse & neglect are associated with short &long term consequences that may include: Brain damage Developmental delays Learning disorders Problems forming relationships Aggressive behavior Depression

What to do
Be open and understanding Monitor the childs well-being Let the child talk as much as he or she wishes Understand that the child is probably having mixed feelings Believe the child

Explain what you will do next to help them
