At time of writing the Dec '13 EUA Contract was at 4.37. The carbon price survived weak auction data to stay above the 4.30 mark. Demand at yesterdays auction was down, the cover ratio was 2.18 (cover ratio = amount of bids/no. of allowances) versus cover ratio figures above 4 for auctions at the tail end of last week. Prices will also be buoyed by the fact that auction volumes are set to be reduced from this Thursday. Auction volumes are set to drop to 2,010,000 allowances or below for the month of August but will retrurn to normal levels again in September. The agricultural sector is set to reward environmentally friendly practices through the Common Agricultural policy (CAP). However, researchers claim that this will do little to reduce green house gas emissions from the agricultural sector over the next decade. As agriculture is one of the larger offending sectors when it comes to emissions alot more work is needed but a good start has been made. The UN have decided not to slash UN issuance fees of UN offsets yesterday. The proposal was debated in an effort to support the ailing market but did not garner enough support to be pushed through.
