Finals make or break

SO it comes down to this. One round that could make us or break us. Weve fought all year to get the best possible SuperCoach team, but for those of us in leagues fighting for the minor premiership, the top four or to get in to the finals all of that counts for nought now. Its all about this weekend. And for me, the wheeling and dealing has already begun. Im in two different leagues with my dad Im on top in one, hes third and we play this weekend. He asked me if Id throw the game so he can make sure he finishes in the top four and then we split the cash later on. Hell no! Its fair to say Im struggling in my other leagues and need a win to cement a spot in the eight in two of those. Cant take any chances. I got an interesting message from one of my best, yet morally questionable, friends, Jesse, this week. Hes seventh and Im 10th in a league with mates from school, and we play each other on the weekend. Winner plays finals, loser is out as eighth also plays ninth. Low on trades, Jesse is also feeling down and out. Jesse: I know Im stuffed (lets pretend he said stuffed) and I quit. Me: Cool, if thats the case can you please just lay down to let me win easy? Jesse: If you trade me some good players in the draft league. Me: You really want to stoop to this level? Jesse: If youre not cheating youre not trying. Interesting conundrum.

So with no earthshattering suspensions to deal with and no new longterm injuries, this week the advice is to play clean, pay your league fees Azza, I need your money regardless of whether or not you make the finals and remember to update your team. A certain SuperCoach columnist potentially myself forgot to put Steve Johnson back on to the field after he returned from suspension last week. Having 120 points sitting on your bench is not ideal in close contests, especially when the man he would have replaced scored a miserly 26. Jimmy Bartel missed last week, but hes already safely positioned back in the forward line. Prioritise your leagues so you give preference to the one or two who mean the most to you. If youre in a position where making the eight is no certainty, go for broke regardless of how many trades you have left. If its possible to make your team better this week but are reluctant to let trades go, just do it its better to be in the finals with next to no trades left than not and wishing youd pulled the trigger earlier.
