SLD

Tips and Tricks 1. SLD stands for Styled Layer Descriptor 2. It is basically XML, which looks a whole lot like html. 3. Even the smallest typo can make your whole SLD unworkable. Pay very close attention to detail. 4. MapStory.org provides a user interface for editing the styles of your StoryLayers when youre creating a MapStory. You are basically editing the SLD when you are editing the style. 5. MapStory does not (currently) easily handle SLDs with choroplething. If you want to choropleth, you have to manually set the color for each range of values. 6. You can export SLDs out of QGIS. However, if an SLD works in QGIS that does not mean it will work in MapStory. Try it out, but you may have to re-edit the style once youve uploaded a storylayer. 7. ArcGIS does not support SLDs. If you style using symbology in ArcGIS, you will have to do your styling again in MapStory. 8. Reuse SLDs. When multiple storylayers share the same field names and you want to use the same color scheme, download the SLD from another storylayer and then add it to the new one.
